Harry John Addison was born in Honington in 1888 (Thetford Q4-1888 4B:374). The son of John and Elizabeth ADDISON (née PREST).

1891 census...Aged 2, he was at Sapiston with his father John ADDISON [31] farm labourer born Honington; his mother Elizabeth [28] born Stalham, Norfolk and sister Emily [2] born Honington.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was at Hall Farm Cottage, Herringswell with his parents (father a Cow man on farm) and sister Emily.

1911 census...Aged 22, a farm labourer, single, he was still in Herringswell with his parents.
CWGC and the pension card have his parents at Hall Farm Lodge, it is not clear if this was still the same address


Enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.
The 2nd Battalion, Suffolk Regiment were in the Vierstraat area, in the Ypres salient, in a state of readiness but never sent "over the top" nor having to repel any serious attacks. There were however regular casualties, daily attrition and wastage caused 140 in March, 30 of them fatalities, only 2 on the 11th.
